Up in the sky

We have been thinking about the sun, moon and stars. We know why it is dark in the night and light in the day. We know why we can't see the stars in the day. We have been painting, drawing and creating lots of different pictures and models of the suin, moon and stars.

'Happy St.David's Day'

We worked together in a team to create a big dragon. We talked about what shapes to use, what colour to use and who was going to do each part. We worked very well as a team, listening to eachother and helping eachother.

We have talked about animals with big or small wings and made dragons, birds and butterflies.

'Dydd Dewi Sant'

We listened to a chant about a dragon and practised clapping in two different rhythms. The boys clapped in one rhythm and the girls clapped in another. It was very hard to concentrate on the clapping and saying the Dragon poem at the same time!

Jigsawing - Owl Facts

Knowledge and understanding of the World
We all thought of some questions we would like to find out about owls. Working with a partner we researched our question using books, fact cards and the Internet. We wrote and drew what we had found out and then told the rest of the class. By the end of the day we had found out and shared many new facts about owls.

Waterproof Materials

What would be the best material to make a coat for Colin to wear in the rain?

We decided the coat would need to be water proof if Colin was to wear it in the rain. We sorted objects into those we thought would be waterproof and those we thought would not be waterproof.

Then we tested some materials, by putting them into the water tray to see if our predictions were right.

The wool got very soggy and would have been no good to make the coat. Paper also got soggy and ripped. Everyone decided the plastic bag material would be the best to make Colin's coat as it would not let the water through.

Flying Carpet

Creative Development/ Language, Literacy and Communication
We read the story Aladdin and enjoyed creating our own flying carpet. Now we pretend we are going on our own flying carpet adventures and hope to write our own magic carpet stories too.
