L, L and C: Spelling ng words

We made a list of ng words with our talking partners and then we played the game, what am I? We listened to clues and guessed which ng word we were. We wrote and typed the ng words into sentences. Some children used their ICT skills by directing bee bot to the correct ng word on the mat. They had to read the clues and then guess the ng word.

The Ducklings Arrive!

In Science this term we have been learning about ourselves and other living things. We were lucky enough to get some duck eggs from a local farm, and have been keeping watch over them in an incubator for the last few weeks. Finally, on Thursday night, they started to hatch out, and by 3am on Friday 27th November we had 4 beautiful fluffy ducklings (as well as a sleepless night for Miss Spackman and her mum!)

Even though we didn't get to see them hatch, we looked at photos and videos of their arrival. The ducklings didn't look so cute when they first hatched out!

But after an hour they had dried out and fluffed up. By the time they'd got to school the next day they were much more alert - we all wanted to have a hold! Awwwww....

We examined the egg shells that the ducklings had come out of - and couldn't believe they had fitted inside the day before!

We made a water drinker using a pop bottle, just big enough for the ducks to get their heads into (although later that day one managed to get inside, so we had to evaluate and improve our design!)

News spread and pretty quickly our class was full of visitors all wanting to see the new arrivals. Even Mr Roberts couldn't resist a cuddle!

Miss Spackman has taken the ducklings home for the weekend, but will be bringing them in next week so we can watch them grow. They are already getting bigger and more playful, and have been enjoying spending time with Miss Spackman's dog Honey!

Problem Solving and Using Money

We have enjoyed solving Pirate Pete's problems and we have posted our answers inside the treasure chest. We have been learning to add amounts and pay exact amounts using smaller coins up to 20p and beyond. We added amounts and directed Bee Bot to the correct amount on the mat.

Writing Instructions

Last week, we made cakes. This week, we put pictures of making cakes in the correct order. Also, we learnt how to write instructions for how to bake a cake. Some children used their ICT skills to create their instuctions using Microsoft Word.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World- Naming light sources

We discussed and made a list of different light sources with our talking partners. We also used our ICT skills by using a wordbank to label light sources.

Problem Solving Day - Number Hunt

We used our number skills to work out the answers to problem solving questions. We worked hard in our teams to solve the questions and to find the answers hidden in the fort.

Problem Solving Day- Finding ways of making 7

We watched a video on the plasma about 'The Mathematical Seven'. Then we used our number and problem solving skills to find as many ways as we could of making number seven. We used our ICT skills by creating number sentences that make 7 on the plasma and we used the microphone to ask each other ways of making 7.

Problem Solving Day

On Friday, the children were asked to wear their birth date number. The children used their thinking and number skills to put themselves in the correct order from smallest to largest.
