Caterpillars!

We have been watching the caterpillars growing very quickly over the last 2 weeks. Now they have finally built their chrysalises and we have put them in the butterfly garden. We are all waiting for them to turn into beautiful butterflies!

Knowledge and Understanding - Planting Beans

We have been finding out about plants and we decided to plant some beans.
First we filled the pots with soil and made holes to plant the beans in. Then we gave them lots of water to help them grow!

Language, Literacy and Communication - Alliteration

We have been reading the story, 'The Very Lazy Ladybird'. We added actions to help us remember the story and we drew a class 'story map'. As a class, we thought of lots of different adjectives and verbs that described each minibeast. Then we made minibeast sentences using alliteration.

Can you make a sentence about the snail?

Creative Development - Minibeast fun!

We painted and decorated minibeast masks.

We used play dough to make ladybirds.

We cut out a butterfly template and decorated its wings.
Then we attached the butterfly to a peg.

Creative Development - Paper Mache Minibeasts

We have been making paper mache minibeast models.
Then we displayed them in our outside area.

Capacity

We have been investigating how much space there is in different size containers.
We counted 27 bean bags could fit in this container.

We filled our containers with lots of cubes.

68 cubes would fit inside this container.

I counted 154 cubes into the biggest container.

We have enjoyed pretending to be bumble bees and ladybirds!

Look at the towers we've built using our base 10 equipment.

Material minibeasts

We have been looking at lots of different mini beasts. We used a variety of materials, buttons, feathers, lollipop sticks and sequins to create pictures of beetles, ladybirds, caterpillars and butterflies.

Woodland walk

We went to Maesyfelin Wood to look for signs of Spring. We found bluebells, snowdrops, celandine's, catkins, pussy willows, primroses, crocuses, May blossom and cherry blossom.
