Winter pictures

Although we haven't had any snow in Pontyclun yet this year the children still enjoyed painting their own snowman pictures.  When they were dry they added detail with pastels.

RNLI SOS day

Avast me hearties!! On Friday we dressed up to raise money for RNLI SOS day. Thank you to everyone who brought in a donation. We raised £50  which we will be sending to this worthy charity that the children have been learning about this term. We enjoyed lots of pirate activities including learning how to speak like a real pirate!

Winter Walk

After cancelling twice due to the rainy weather we finally got to go on our winter woodland walk.
We wrapped up warm with hats, coats, gloves and scarves.

It was a good job we wore our wellies there was lots of mud about!

We crossed over the bridge. The river was flowing very fast.

We enjoyed running up and down the hills. We noticed a lot more leaves on
the ground than when we went on our autumn walk and most of the trees were bare.

Some horses came to see what we were up to.

A class photo before the big walk back to school.  What a fun time we had!

Floating and sinking

Mr Grinling the lighthouse keeper wrote to us to ask for our help. He needed a new boat but he was not  sure what material would be the best to use. We decided that a boat should float so we carried out an investigation to find materials that would float in water and materials that would sink.

We recorded our results in a table.

Observational drawings of boats

We have been finding out about different types of boats. We made a collection of toy boats and looked at them carefully from different angles. We noticed what we saw was not the same. Very carefully we drew only what we could see.

RNLI

To start off our topic Tim from the RNLI came to school to talk to us about the fabulous work of the RNLI. We listened really carefully and asked lots of questions to find out more.  Miss Davies even got to try on the  RNLI rescue uniform.

After that we got to dress up ourselves and pretend we were doing our own rescues from our amazing lifeboat station role play.
