We hope this blog will give an insight into what is happening in and around Year 1 in our school. It is a site for all pupils, parents and governors.

Welsh language development
This week in Welsh we have been asking the question 'Beth sy'n bod?' and pretending that we have hurt a part of our body.
We used the mannequin independently to label parts of the body.

Creative Development: Making a Sequence

We used the story, 'Handa's Surprise', to create a sequence of slow and clumsy movements. We 'collapsed' to the floor when we bumped into the tree like the goat in Handa's Surprise. We discussed what we were looking for- high and low shapes, slow movements and change of direction. We watched the videos in class and decided what we need to improve next time.

Physical Development

We have been throwing and catching a ball at different heights and when we're on the move. We decided that we needed to keep our eye on the ball and open our hands ready to catch the ball. We worked with a partner and threw the ball underarm for our partner to catch. When we went back to class, we looked at the pictures and a video of our performance. We talked about what we did well and what we needed to improve next time.

Knowledge and Understanding - Comparing Light Sources
We read the story, 'The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark'. We discussed which sources of light we could give the owl to use during the night time. We planned an investigation to find out which light would be the brightest. We used a candle, a torch and a lamp. We found out that the lamp was the brightest, but which light did we choose to give the owl?
Mathematical Development - Doubling Numbers
This week, we have been doubling numbers up to 10. We each had a question card and placed it on the correct answer. We played games on the plasma and we programmed bee bot to the correct answers. We asked each other doubling questions using the microphone. What is double 4? Can you think of a doubling question?
