Language,Literacy and Communication - Instructions

We have been finding out about instructions. Bossy words are used to tell people what to do. We practised giving and following instructions with bossy words to build bridges and tunnels on our construction site.

Creative Development - Dinosaurs!

This week, following our work on dinosaurs we have enjoyed lots of dinosaur craft. We learnt that clay is a natural material that is found underground. We used clay to make our own model dinosaurs. We glued the body parts together and painted it when it was dry.

Look at our art attack! We used lots of different materials to make our own dinosaur. He has spikes like a stegosaurus!

We have enjoyed making junk model dinosaurs. We worked together to make one big dinosaur.

Then we made our own smaller dinosaurs.

Mathematical Development - measuring

We became dinosaur detectives and used books to find out how long different dinosaurs were.

Then we used a metre stick to measure how big the dinosaurs were and drew them on our school yard.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

We have been discussing animals that live underground. Last week our sand tray was filled with soil and we looked closely at worms.

Mrs Phillips showed us how to make a wormery. She told us we needed to build up layers which the worms would mix together.

First we put some soil into the tank.

Then we added some worms.

Next we added a layer of sand.

We spread it evenly across the tank.

We added some compost...

Then more sand...

Then some more soil...

We could see the layers building up.

We continued adding the layers of soil, sand and compost.

When our wormery was finished we covered it with black cardboard to make it dark as the worms don't like the light. We added a flap allowing us to look at the worms mixing up the layers.

Creative

We all enjoyed painting last week...with soil!
We used our hands to spread mud as part of our 'What's Under The Bed?' display.

We loved getting our hands dirty!

This week we have been thinking about 'th' words. We found out all about the naughty clowns who make the 2 different th sounds, as in they and thin. We sorted the words and practised spelling them.

Knowledge & Understanding of the World - Electricity

The children became 'electricity detectives' and found objects in their homes which use electricity. They then looked for the objects in old catalogues and carefully cut them out, deciding which room in the house they were found and sticking them into that room.
